Short On Tomorrows

Written By: Jim Gaffney

Verse 1

Sang the blues for a while but they didn’t fit
The world held me down but I never quit
Swam the ocean and beat the tide
Fought my way to the other side

Troubled by an enemy I couldn’t see
That made the world think less of me
A silent battle I couldn’t ignore
Made me into a man with somethin’ more

Chorus

Through much of this journey I’ve known the rain
But music and laughter replaced the pain
Time was a friend of mine for a while
Took years of struggle to pass the trial

A place I once thought out of reach
I’ve been delivered to a place of peace
Faith wasn’t easy through hard-fought miles
My only regret, I’m short on tomorrows

 Verse 2

I’ve walked the valleys where the shadows hide

Felt the weight of failure deep inside

But mercy found me when I lost my way

Turned my darkest night into brighter days

The scars I carry there’s a story behind

A tale of the man they helped define

I’ve stumbled often, but I finally see

There’s space in heaven for a soul like me

Bridge

Now I see the road for what it is

A broken path still lined with gifts

Every burden taught me how to stand

Every loss was part of the plan

The nights were long but they shaped my soul

Each scar a story that made me whole

Through fire and rain I found my way

A brighter dawn came after the gray

I’ve stumbled hard but I still rise

With open heard and clearer eyes

I’ve made my peace with what’s been done

The race ain’t over, it’s just begun

Chorus

Through much of this journey I’ve known the rain
But music and laughter replaced the pain
Time was a friend of mine for a while
Took years of struggle to pass the trial

A place I once thought out of reach
I’ve been delivered to a place of peace
Faith wasn’t easy through hard-fought miles
My only regret, I’m short on tomorrows

Outro

I’ve walked through the fire and felt the flame

But I’d live it again, I’d do the same

The clock keeps ticking, but no more sorrows

I’ve found my peace, though I’m short on tomorrows
