Every Mile Matters

Written By: Jim Gaffney

Verse 1

I’ve learned from the sunlight, I’ve learned from the rain

Both joy and the heartache have something to gain

The wrong turns I’ve taken showed the right way to go

The harder the climb, the more that I grow

Embraced the struggle with a fire inside

A reason for living, a heart open wide

I’ve found in the silence the strength to believe

That every small moment holds something to see

The roads that were winding still carried me true

Each mile was a teacher with more to pursue

Through laughter and sorrow, through blessings and trials

I’ve learned to keep runnin’, ‘cause life’s in the miles

Chorus

Every mile matters on this long, winding road
Through the fires of hell, it’s the story I’ve wrote
Every turn, every lesson, they’ve all shaped who I am
From broken beginnings to the strength of a man

These legs and this heart they guide my search
The miracle mile, my holy church
With God as my witness I’ll reach the end
These miles they’ve broken lesser men

Each step is a prayer, each breath a song
The miles keep comin’ and I push on
Through fire and rain, the journey is told
‘Cause every mile matters on this long, winding road

 Verse 2

I’ve run through the seasons, each one had its say

Spring’s gentle promise, fall’s fading gray

Summer brought laughter, and winter brought rest

Each moment reminds me that life is a test

I’ve seen how the struggles can turn into song

The music gives me courage to keep moving on

The faces I’ve met and the hands that I’ve held

Are part of the story my miles have spelled

No step is wasted, no journey in vain

Each loss has its lesson, each joy has its gain

The road keeps on calling, I’ll answer its voice

For every mile matters, and hope is my choice

Bridge

I’ve run with the weary, I’ve raced with the strong

Each carried a story, a place they belong

The miles may divide us, but still they connect

Through love and through struggle, through pain and respect

I’ve learned from the fallen, I’ve learned from the brave

Each step is a memory, each mile is a grave

But hope is the compass that points me ahead

It whispers of life and adventures unsaid

The road has no ending, just paths to explore

Each mile opens doors I’ve not seen before

The journey’s a blessing, the struggle a friend

For every mile matters, from beginning to the end
